Swanage Boat Charters is a father and son team that run two boats out of Swanage. The boats are well managed and both Martin (Dad) and Bryan (Son) are approachable and keen to make your dive as pleasant as possible. Pick-up is usually of the pier itself, so parking on it makes the whole process very comfortable.

Divers Down is the local dive shop on the pier, where topping up your gas is convenient and quick.  They are also extremely helpful when it comes to emergency repairs. They operate three boats now taking up to 12 divers.

Diving out of Weymouth and Portland, Dorset

Portland has its positive and negative sites. On the positive, you can go always diving, which means if the weather is too poor elsewhere, you will dive in the harbour, however, that is the negative side as well, the harbour is extremely silted up, offering poor visibility.


Fathom & Blues operate out of pub on the road running out of Weymouth onto Portland Bill. The offer a competitive B&B service and also offer a bunk house on Portland Bill. They operate a number of RIBs which they run across the harbour to go the dive sites.

Scimitar run two hard boats and a RIB out of their operation on Portland Bill.  A popular operation with divers, to ensure a space or spaces for your group it is advisable to book as soon as you can.

The Old Harbour Dive Centre operate a purpose built 12m dive boat with a large lift, allowing easy access back onto the boat. The boat is popular with groups in the summer and again it is adviseable to book well in advance.

West Bay is a small fishing village about 10 miles West of Weymouth. Keith and Neil (Slim) run their boat the Ruby J out of West Bay. The boat can comfortable accommodate 10 divers (12 at a push).

The Blue Turtle is a hard boat run out Lyme Regis by Rob who bought from Doug in 2010. Rob is a diver himself, so he knows exactly what divers want. The boat can carry up to 12 passengers, but does feel crowded when more than 10 passengers on it.
